pentecost 2 small As a charismatic group of sisters, Pentecost is a great celebration for us. It is a great reminder of the power of the Holy Spirit - but it is also ood to remember that we can call on the power of the Spirit every day!

pentecost 160 x 160Pentecost is getting close. It is a great time to think about your relationship with the Holy Spirit! This week's blog aims to inspire you to think about this in new ways. We also want to encourage you to join with us in praying a novena to the Holy Spirit, a long-standing tradition in the church, for after Jesus' Ascension, he commanded his disciples to gather together and pray for the coming of the Spirit.

Beautiful things happen when you notice joy

joy berna 2 160x160

I thought it was a big call, even for a pope.

In the letter for the Year of Consecrated Life, Pope Francis is quoted as saying: "I want to say one word to you and this word is joy. Wherever consecrated people are, there is always joy!" One word to describe all the men and women throughout the world who have chosen to be set apart for God alone and he chooses joy? Why not love, or faith, or hope or peace?

Mel Nah 160x160

One of the ministries I am involved in as an MGL Sister is in the Youth Justice Centre in Melbourne. On one particular night, when we entered the unit for the youth group program, Tim (name changed) was with a group of other young men playing cards. We came and joined their group, and decided to play the ‘questions’ game at the same time as a way of encouraging interaction and conversation. This activity involves drawing a question from a box with wide and varied themes such as the three items you might take to a deserted island or which famous people you would invite to your dinner party.

One of our favourite things to do is to share about the gift of consecrated life. One of the invitations in the Year of Youth is for young people to courageously face the big questions in life - like Where is God calling me?

We want to invite all young women to come along to one of our Consecrated Life Weekends, to be held in Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne throughout the year. These weekends are an opportunity for some quality time with God, and to share in and hear about the gift of consecrated life and our life as MGL Sisters.

Resurrection Snapshots

resurrection 160x160 Happy Easter! There are so many ways to reflect on the incredible gift of the Resurrection and what it means in our lives. Here are a few words of wisdom from quite a few of the sisters. We each chose a different statement to complete in 50 words or less. Perhaps these snapshots can encourage you and inspire you to ponder deeply the impact of the Resurrection in your own life.

Veronica Speaks: Seeing and Responding

People often ask how they can enter into Holy Week with Jesus. Perhaps one way is to consider the story of the Passion from the position of some of the 'characters' who are familiar to us. On this Wednesday of Holy Week, we meet Veronica and witness her loving response to Jesus in his journey to Calvary. .

Perhaps one way is to consider the story of the Passion from the position of some of the 'characters' who are familiar to us. On this Tuesday of Holy Week, we meet a soldier and and join in his struggle to understand true strength in the face of trials.

02. I am the Vine 160x160

The other year we had two very large vines growing in our garden, overtaking our empty flowerbeds. It made me think about the Scripture "I am the vine, you are the branches… you will bear much fruit if you remain in my love" (Jn 15:5). I am no horticulturalist, but I suspect that the vines spread out so far because they try to make the greatest surface area to absorb the greatest amount of the sun’s rays... so they can bear the greatest amount of pumpkin!

Kathryn Kingsley's vocation story

Recently, one of our sisters Kathryn Kingsley wrote her vocation story for the Melbourne Catholic magazine. It is a great read! Click here to be inspired

03. Singing with all my heart

Have you ever found yourself singing along to a song in the company of another, only to find them looking at you rather strangely and trying to suppress their laughter? Some might experience this if they have a not so in-tune singing voice, but here I am thinking about those times when we catch someone singing along to a song with the words all wrong. Often these words we are singing may make little sense, but we are so used to singing them and are so sure they are the actual words that we continue to belt them out at the top of our lungs.
