Moments of Grace

 2022.01.a moment that touched me

While staying with my sister in the holidays, I came home one day to find that my niece and nephews had been told that they had to clean up the lounge room and back yard before we could set off on our next adventure together.

Eager to speed up the process, I picked a few things up and put them away and then stood in the corner to direct proceedings rather than end up doing it all for them.  One of the kids kept getting distracted and playing with the things they picked up.  One worked diligently for a while and then worked out that they were the only one working, so stopped.  And one had a melt-down, deciding it was all too much and they couldn’t possibly pick up another thing.

My sister, who had been vacuuming the hall and bedrooms, came in at this point, and instead of joining me in the corner where I was waiting for them to finish, got on her hands and knees and began to pick up toys and put them away.

As I watched, I was struck by the fact that this is what God does for us.  We’ve certainly made a mess with all that He’s given us.  But He doesn’t stand back with folded arms to wait for us to fix it up.  No, the Good News that we preach is that God gets down to our level and, on the Cross, He Himself cleans up our mess!
