The Missionaries of God's Love Sisters exists as a consecrated group living totally and exclusively for Jesus and with Jesus.
Disciples of Jesus Community
A distinctive feature of the Missionaries of God's Love is that it is a consecrated group within a Catholic charismatic covenant community, the Disciples of Jesus. The Disciples of Jesus has branches in Australia in the cities of Canberra, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Darwin, Hobart and Cairns. It is also has branches in Port Moresby and Bougainville (Papua New Guinea), Bali (Indonesia) and Manila (Phillipines). The community is made up of people from all walks of life, all states of life, and all stages of life. Members are dedicated to developing a Catholic way of life which is true to their baptismal calling. They seek to live out their baptism by developing a way of life that is true to the gospel, and by bringing the Good News of Jesus to others through various works of evangelisation.
Layers of Identity
To understand the identity of the Missionaries of God's love the following diagram can be useful:
We are fundamentally Catholic - rooted in Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.
We are charismatic - springing from the experience of the "Baptism in the Holy Spirit" - a "big grace" that renews sacramental baptism, opens one to charismatic gifts, brings one into deeper conscious relationship with Jesus as Saviour and Lord, and brings personal transformation, enabling a person to yield the fruits of the Spirit in a new way.
We are members of Disciples of Jesus covenant community - full membership of the community is attained by covenant, a public commitment to give one's life to the Lord under the grace, vision and mission of the community.
We are Missionaries of God's Love - full commitment as a Missionary is attained through private vows, which are solemn promises before the Lord taken in a public manner to live poverty, celibacy and obedience, and to offer oneself as a consecrated person for the preaching of the Good News to the ends of the earth.
When we take vows we call upon the fire of the Holy Spirit to empower us and consecrate ourselves to the heart of Jesus broken in love for the world, and place ourselves under the mantle of protection of Mary the Mother of God, who we trust graciously intercedes for us.
The MGL sisters are moving towards Canonical recognition and hope to become a religious Institute
