Today is a day of hope, peace, joy and love. It is a day for rejoicing in the gift of our salvation. It is a day for discovering anew what it means to live life to the full and for opening our hearts to receiving the gift of the baby born for us. Many people know the delight of welcoming a new baby into their families, and the beautiful and profound changes this brings as people come alive in fresh and new ways. Let’s allow this baby, Jesus, to make a difference to our lives in a new way today.

The scriptures that we hear as we celebrate Christmas speak of this truth in a profound and powerful way. Some of these are shared below – I invite you to read through them and allow Jesus to speak to you. Pause where you feel drawn to pause, and allow them to fill your whole being with the hope, peace, joy and love of this season.

  • God’s grace has been revealed and it has made salvation possible and taught us that what we have to do is to give up everything that does not lead to God – Romans 2:11-12
  • Now when the angels had gone from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, ‘Let us go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us’ – Luke 2:15-16
  • For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. - Isaiah 9:6
  • And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. - John 1:14
  • And going into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh. - Matthew 2:11
  • Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. - Zechariah 9:9
  • Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. – Luke 2:11
