The Cross and Flame - Part 2

2019.52.Keep the Fire Burning 6 Nehemiah.main blog image

The flame is a sign of the Holy Spirit and of love. It is a powerful sign of Trinitarian love as it reveals to us the fire of the Father’s heart, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. The fire of the Holy Spirit is a visible sign of the love between all three persons in the Trinity. We are invited into the fire of love and to share that with the world. During my conversion, I experienced God’s love in a powerful, consuming, tangible way. The next breath I was saying, “this is a gift I want to share with the world!” I didn’t know it then, but God had already placed a missionary desire in my heart.

As Missionaries of God's Love, we experience the fire of the Holy Spirit to be the power that draws us, giving us energy and inspiration for prayer, sisterhood and mission. The Spirit brings creativity, life, energy, passion and inspiration. We know from Genesis 1:2, this Spirit is the same Spirit that birthed and created the world.

I have been taking this into prayer, reflecting on the beauty between the Spirit birthing and creating the world being the same Spirit that inspires us today. It opens my mind wide to the possibility of what the Spirit could do in each of us. I often feel inadequate when it comes to ministry or life in general. Words of self-doubt, like someone else would be better at doing that or I don’t have enough experience often cross my mind. The list of reasons why I can’t or shouldn’t can be endless. God calls us to live out of His truth, He reminds us that we aren’t left on our own relying on our own strength. God gives us the gift of the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us. The very same Spirit that created the world dwells in us.
