Enflame us with a deep hunger for prayer

As MGL Sisters, prayer is at the centre of our lives. We spend a significant amount of time each day praying – connecting and being present with Jesus, the one who loves us more than we can possibly imagine. Yet, when we pray enflame us with a deep hunger for prayer, what are we asking? As I ponder this, a few ideas come to mind.

  • Praying for a deep hunger for prayer is praying for a continual desire to seek and be with Jesus – in the good times and the hard times, in the busy times and the quieter times, in the joys and the struggles. Prayer has a place within and through all of the circumstances of our lives.
  • Praying for a deep hunger for prayer helps to remind us that with Jesus there is always more to discover, there is always something new that he wants to show us – about him or about ourselves.
  • Praying for a deep hunger for prayer may just help to create more space inside of us for Jesus to fill. This may be challenging as we sense a call to surrender more fully, or change patterns in our lives which are unhelpful or even destructive.
  • Praying for a deep hunger for prayer is also a paradox, for as we pray for that hunger, we can also acknowledge that Jesus is the only one who can truly satisfy. Perhaps then, what we are really saying is ‘help me to experience you filling and satisfying my hunger in a way that leaves me wanting more’.

Next time you pray, take some time to ask Jesus what a deep hunger for prayer might mean for you at this time.
