'O Rising Sun' - The 'O' Antiphons Day 5

2019.77.O Antiphons 5.Main Blog imageIt is hard not to be moved by a spectacular sunrise. It is an image of hope, of new life and of a chance to start afresh. The rising sun is in fact an image of the resurrection. Remarkably, in the northern hemisphere, this O Antiphon falls on the Winter Solstice, the time of year when the night is as dark and long as it is going to get. So we sing to welcome the light on this darkest of days.

We may feel a little removed from that as we enjoy summer and light here is Australia, but there is an invitation to allow the glorious light to illumine what is dark inside of us. If we are lucky enough today, we may be able to go outside and bathe in the sun as a really tangible way to consciously ask that the Son will warm and enlighten the dark places inside of us.
