'O Key of David' - The 'O' Antiphons Day 4

2019.76.O Antiphons 4.Main Blog imageIn my work in youth justice ministry I was recently speaking with a young man who told me he would believe in God if he worked a miracle like smashing down all the doors so he could leave custody. He then told me that he would have more chance of me giving him my keys so he could open them for himself, and that he knew even that would not happen. He expressed feeling hopeless at not being able to leave.

What followed was a poignant conversation about closed doors, and how those that were holding him back the most were really those inside of him. We talked about the power of God to open these internal doors, setting him free and bringing him to life in new ways. We talked about the challenge that it is to say yes and to allow Jesus to come into these broken and vulnerable parts of our hearts. Sometimes the key is already in the door and we need to be the one to turn it.

Jesus is the key to life, to fullness of life for all of us. What are the closed doors inside of us in which he is inviting us to turn the key?
