'O Adonai' - The 'O' Antiphons Day 2

2019.74.O Antiphons 2.Dec 18.Main Blog imageAdonai, or Lord is the name the Israelites used for Yahweh, the name revealed to Moses at the burning bush. This O antiphon connects us with the Exodus story, reminding us of the powerful way God led his people to freedom.

And he has not stopped. The reality that the Exodus event revealed a God who is powerfully present can not be understated, for through this the Israelites experienced his saving power. Yet Jesus who comes is Adonai, come to save us and to draw us to experience his powerful presence. A new law and a new covenant is revealed in Jesus, perhaps calling us to echo the cry of those at Sinai, ‘What other people have their God so close to them?’

Reminiscent of Moses, we are invited to be on the lookout for the burning bushes on our own lives. Yet this is not a frantic, anxious search, but one that is strongly flavoured with a trust his power can and will move in unseen ways.
