'O Wisdom' - The 'O' Antiphons Day 1

2019.73.O Antiphons 1.Main Blog imageThe wisdom of God is often not what we expect. Perhaps this is no more true when we consider how he chose to enter the world. When the angel appeared to Mary, who was then unimportant in many ways, to announce that she would give birth to the Saviour, that was wisdom. When he chose to be born in a humble, simple stable, that was wisdom. When circumstances in our lives seem crazy and unpredictable, perhaps that too is the wisdom of God.

Jesus was the answer of God into a broken world. But we must know that this is no less true for us some 2000 years later. As Christmas approaches, can I welcome the baby Jesus into my life in new ways. Can I welcome him with the same enthusiasm and joy with which I might welcome a new-born baby of a friend or family member?

We are not alone in this journey. God who is wisdom is ever-present and to discover this in ever growing ways, we must surrender ourselves to him. As we contemplate this invitation, let us sit with Mary and gain wisdom from her response to the message of the angel, to the wisdom of God.
