Say What? - with Fiona Shanahan

Just in case you have missed our previous Say What? posts.... Say What is a series of questions about discernment and life in the MGL Sisters - the catch is that all the questions begin with the word WHAT. This time we meet Fiona Shanahan who curretly lives in our Melbourne house.

What are three things about you that you want to share with us?

  • I love being creative and seeing the gospel presented in creative ways to lots of different people form different walks of life
  • I love music
  • I love praise and worship

What do you think is one of the most important things you did as you were discerning?

Being very honest with Jesus about how I felt about the things that came up whilst discerning

What is one of the best things about living consecrated life with other sisters?

The joy of the shared stories over a long period of time

What does living a vow of poverty mean to you?

Having simple desire for God, and a desire to have all other things stripped away – God alone remains.

* What did your family think when you joined?

My family were curious about why I would give away my career as a nurse, and saw it as a career change. I had to explain to them that this was not a career, I loved my career, but this was different, this was a vocation.

* What else would you like to say - in 100 words or less?

Jesus loves me like no other person could love me, and that love is so strong that I am prepared to live this way of life in joy.
