Say What? - With Katherine Stone

 Kat Stone

Last month during National Vocations Awareness Week, we began a new series of blogs called Say What? - where we ask sisters a series of questions about discernment and life in the MGL sisters.

Today, we hear from Katherine Stone who currently lives in our Canberra house.

What are three things about you that you want to share with us?

 - I am Tasmanian.

 - My "thing" this year is knitting tea-cosies.

 - I love climbing mountains.

What was one of the hardest challenges you faced when you first joined the sisters?

Shyness - it's one of the things about myself that I have to confront every time I move to a new house.  I am incredibly shy and it costs me a lot to build a new set of friends and feel comfortable enough to be myself in a new place.

What is one of your mission highlights?

A recent one is witnessing a couple of guys I was directing on a retreat fall in love with Jesus and open their lives to him in a fuller way.  For someone who is in love with Jesus, there's nothing more satisfying.

What is one of the most important things you did as you were discerning?

To build my relationship with Jesus.  Ultimately that is where my vocation comes out of.  The more I got to know him and his heart for me, the more certain I was that I was called.

What has been the greatest self-discovery about yourself and giftedness in this life?

That I don't have to be perfect to be loved, but rather my imperfection is a valuable gift both to God and to others.

What is one of the best things about living consecrated life with other sisters?

Sharing everything - the joys and the struggles.  You're never alone.  Sometimes that's hard work, but even that is gift - I wouldn't grow as a person without it.

What else would you like to say - in 100 words or less?

The most important thing in all of this is to know God's love for you, personally.  If you haven't encountered Jesus and got to know him as a friend, start there.  Everything unfolds from that place.  All you have to do is take some time to ask him to introduce himself to you.  I'm willing to stake my reputation on the fact that he will find such an invitation irresistible, because he loves you and has been waiting for that moment all your life...
